LONG AS I CAN SEE THE LIGHT

Well, it’s been some time since we wrote to you. We’re still cranky and moody and really cute, so we don’t have to give you an excuse. We stopped at a park in Raleigh, North Carolina. You know, the same big city that Andy and Barnie used to go to when they needed to blow off steam from being the law in Mayberry. We stayed in the North Carolina fairgrounds park for cats like us.

We drove by Carter-Finley Stadium, where the North Carolina State Wolfpack play football in the fall. It’s right next door to PNC Arena where NC State plays basketball and the Carolina Hurricanes play NHL hockey. We also toured downtown Raleigh. Buster liked Raleigh because of the downtown area, all of the conveniences, and a good vibe. Betty thought the place is too big.

We also drove over to see Durham. If you’ve never been to Durham, you might be surprised. We had read that Durham is on the rise with some trendy this and thats.. One would think that with an institution like Duke University, its medical school, and all of the other trappings of being Duke that Durham would be really nice. We’re delivering the message, Durham is a trashy, creepy town. Driver, get us out of there. Thank you.

We went on down the road to a park just south of Winston-Salem. We really liked Winston, as we locals call it. The downtown has a great vibe for local development and improvements. Kind of a funky feel to it. We passed by the minor league baseball team’s park. The team is now known as the Dash, as in the mark between Winston and Salem. That was after years of using the name of the major league team with which they were affiliated; e.g., Red Sox, Dodgers, etc. At one point, the team had a contest to name the team. Ergo, Dashes. Some wingnut had to point out that the symbol is actually a hyphen, so the team made a joke of it and played one game as the Winston-Salem Hyphens. Winston has a lot of history. For instance, it was the original home of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. It’s the corporate home of the company that makes Texas Pete’s Hot Sauce (one of Buster’s faves). There’s a lot to know about the civil rights movement that took place here. And, of course, there’s the history of the Reynolds companies that poisoned millions of humans and their cats. It’s a beautiful city now.

One more thing. On our way out of North Carolina, we stopped at a campground just outside of Bryson City. What a beautiful place! We were right by the creek. Betty started a couple of campfires and we really enjoyed it. So, we could step out the door and enjoy the beautiful creek. Speaking of, Creedence Clearwater sang their song “Long as I Can See the Light.” We don’t pay attention to all of CCR’s inside drama and legal shit, but they made some good music.

Okay, later guys,

Betty and Buster

NC State Woolpack’s home

Lots of wolves outside

Mmmm … lamb stew with Betty’s favorite stout

Outside my back door … Bryson City, NC

How pretty!

Betty really liked this one! Hardywood’s milk stout.
