WHEN YOU WISH UPON A STAR

Do any of you remember hearing Jiminy Cricket sing this iconic song? In fact, the American Film Institute ranked "When You Wish Upon a Star" seventh in their 100 Greatest Songs in Film History. The song was written by Leigh Harline and Ned Washington for the 1940 Disney animated film Pinocchio, based on the children's fairy tale novel The Adventures of Pinocchio by Italian author Carlo Collodi. We also got to hear the song each Sunday evening as the Wonderful World of Disney came on the TV set. Of course, the antenna had to be adjusted just right. Tinkerbell was flying all over the screen with her pixie dust. But, Tinkerbell wasn’t in Pinnochio. And Pinnochio was never in sight of the magic castle. Thus began Disney’s plan to take over the world. You can guess where we’re going with this.

We made a trip to Disneyworld where the world is perfect and we were in the most magical place on earth. We may have mentioned that we agreed to meet one of Betty’s brothers at the park. We’ve never been big fans of Disney, but we have to admit that the place is huge and impressive. We parked our house in the RV park at Fort Wilderness, which is part of the Disneyworld property. The transportation system is top notch and the amenities go on forever. And, of course, it’s very clean. So, we took buses, a ferry, an Uber, and a skylift to get to all of our different destinations over a period of about two and a half days.

Our first stop was the Fort Wilderness Lodge. It’s a beautiful place which reminds us of a lodge in the great wild north, in the … wilderness - duh. Lots of wooden beams and native people design. Then we drove to Animal Kingdom where we had drinks with bartender Jason at the bar and then dinner at Sanaa. One of the signature provisions at Sanaa is the bread service. Yum. The food was outstanding - we gave it five paws.

Our first park experience was at the Magic Kingdom. We took a ferry across a lake to get there. I won’t spend much time describing it, because, based on the size of the crowds, I think Betty and I are the last ones to visit this place. We also visited Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Epcot. Buster took every opportunity to go on roller rides; e.g. TRON lightcycle in the Magic Kingdom, the Tower of Terror in Hollywood Studios, and Star Wars’ Rise of the Resistance. Betty rode the Everest roller coaster in Animal Kingdom and the Star Wars Experience. She was very brave and received a certificate for her bravery. In addition to Sanaa, we had very nice dinners at Jiko and the Rose and Crown.

So, the experience was impressive - the crowds and costs were bothersome. What is it with all of these people that want to dress up like a mouse? We don’t get it.

Later friends,

Betty and Buster

The flamingos get along with the elephants

Bread …. mmm. With a variety of sauces to enjoy.

That’s where Betty rode a roller coaster
